We have all experienced personal anger; we’ve all felt it, whether as a fleeting annoyance or as full-fledged rage. Need not be embarrassed. We designed this course to illustrate where anger is a completely normal, and a usually healthy, human emotion. But also, we point the signs where anger gets out of control and interrupts your ability to properly conduct yourself at your place of work, in your personal relationships, or is destructive to the overall quality of your life. When this happens, it is then time to deploy Anger Management Strategies. Anger can be caused by both external and internal events. You could be angry at a specific person (such as a coworker or supervisor) or event (a traffic jam, a canceled flight), or your anger could be caused by worrying or brooding about your personal problems. Memories of traumatic or enraging events can also trigger angry feelings. Anger, like other emotions, can be accompanied by physiological and biological changes, like heart rate and blood pressure increases, as do the levels adrenaline, and noradrenaline. The course suggests alternate approaches to counter-balance angry feelings, including expressing, suppressing, and calming where we propose exercises to reduce anger and your feelings or physiological arousals. We suggest methods to manage the things or people that enrage you and how you can control your emotional reactions.
